This hearing aid is the most visible style on the market. It is made custom to fit your ear canals. ITEs can exclusively fit mild to severe hearing losses. There are, of course, advantages and disadvantages to this style of hearing aid.

Advantages:

  • Good for patients with dexterity issues
  • Receiver is close to the ear drum
  • Can have a larger battery for a longer battery life
  • Takes advantage of the outer ear canal resonance and pinna for natural collection of sounds

Disadvantages:

  • More prone to wax build up, as it is further in the ear canal
  • Visible in the ear; Not as aesthetically appealing
  • Plugs ear canal, can result in occlusion or an echo sound
  • Not as easy to repair in clinic office. It will likely have to be sent in to the manufacturer unless it is a minor fix.

Please Note: Each ITE appears different as no two ears are the same. This style is limited to a severe degree of hearing loss. If your loss deteriorates further, you will need to change hearing aid styles for your required level of hearing loss. Talk to your hearing instrument specialist about this option, if it is something you are interested in.
