Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSHL), commonly known as sudden deafness, occurs as an unexplained, rapid loss of hearing—usually in one ear—either at once or over several days. It should be considered a medical emergency. Anyone who experiences SSHL should visit a doctor immediately. If you are not sure if you are experiencing SSHL please call us right away for a hearing assessment so we can rule out wax blockage or middle ear pathology and assess your ability to correctly recognize speech.
Dr. Ted Venema discusses the signs and symptoms of sudden hearing loss and the importance of immediate treatment.
